    “Swoosh: 40 Years Fly By” 
Steven Heller looks back on the interesting history and “DNA” of the iconic Nike logo, the evolution from a “stripe” to a “swoosh,” and that infamous “bargain brand” first designed in 1969 by Carolyn Davidson, supposedly for a mere $35. She was a graphic design student at the time.
The final variation of the design was launched to the public in June 1971.

Back in 1969, cartoonist Ron Cobb designed the ecology symbol. The almost forgotten iconic mark, appropriated for the “Ecology Flag” back in the 70s, combines the letters “e” and “o,” symbolic of the environment and oneness (among other things).

Helveticons by Goodbye Horses is a set of 245 royalty-free vector icons, glyphs and symbols in seven formats inspired by the lines of Helvetica Bold. Bit pricey but look like they’d be useful for everything from wireframing to iPhone apps. (via Matthew Buchanan)
