The anticipated redesign for the AIGA Design Archives, designed by Second Story Interactive Studios, has launched. We’ll have to take some more time browsing the archives, but we are excited to see how far back in time some of the collections go. AIGA has also posted a case study to learn more about the development process and design behind the revamped, substantial design resource. The expansive collections provide something for everyone, from A Decade of Sports Graphics (1987-96) to Fifty Advertisements of the Year (1973). There is plenty of book cover design eye candy too.

One of my favorite bookstores, along with their Coral Gables location. So happy to see they are here to stay.
Beloved Miami Beach bookstore, Books & Books, takes what could be just another sad local bookshop closure, and finds the opportunity to redesign their space in a new home next door. Though Books & Books had to move to the side to make room for a new Diesel Shop on the Lincoln Road strip, the bookstore will now have significantly more space. Other changes include a cobranded Design Within Reach cafe, and the Assouline Boutique Corner.
How Do You Design a Book Cover?
“First you start with a blank page, stare and think really hard, drink lots of coffee, take lots of breaks, fix the copier jam, update your Facebook page, get over the fears that this project is the one that will finally expose you as the hack that you are, and then just trust to do what you feel is right from what you’ve read, present your ideas to find out how they live outside of your head, listen to feedback, try to leave work at a decent hour, have a life, floss, get enough sleep, have a good breakfast and come back the next day to redo it all over again. It’s that simple and fun. And if it isn’t, then get another blank page and start all over again.”

“the designed life” is a new feature based around inspiration in Print magazine. It’s very exciting that I was given the privilege to participate in the first installment of the new segment.
